Abingdon Press provides resources that meet the needs of all those who seek and would serve God. We produce and deliver hundreds of thousands of resources that people want and use for their ministries. Among these products are books, supply items, music resources, curriculum resources, and a host of other print and non-print media, including audio and video cassettes, computer software, and periodicals such as Circuit Rider and Newscope.
All curriculum writing is done by assignment. Curriculum writers are active members of The United Methodist Church and are often involved in the age level for which they write.
Most of our book publishing is done on a royalty basis: The author is paid a percentage of the retail price of copies sold. We assume the expense of editing, printing, binding, advertising, and promotion; and in most cases, we arrange for illustration. Through our own sales personnel, we distribute to retail bookstores those books published under our imprint. We also handle subsidiary rights as well as foreign sales and translation rights.
Abingdon Press accepts very few unsolicited manuscripts for publication. If you choose to submit a manuscript, please observe the following guidelines:
- We suggest that an author first submit for consideration an outline or description of the writing plan together with one or two sample chapters. Because of the time and expense involved in the appraisal process, manuscripts should be submitted to only one publisher at a time.
- The author should retain a copy of any unsolicited material submitted, since Abingdon Press cannot assume responsibility for the receipt, security, or return of such material. Correct postage should accompany the manuscript in the event it must be returned. The author should provide only one address the one to which correspondence regarding the submission is to be sent. Manuscripts will not be opened if they do not have a return address.
- Careful attention is given to every project submitted, and every attempt is made to reach a decision within eight weeks of receipt of a manuscriptunless further consultation is necessary. All editorial considerations take place at 201 Eighth Avenue, South, Nashville, Tennessee 37203.
We welcome your e-mail. Just use the links under the Editorial listing on our Staff Directory to send your message. We cannot enter into discussions via email regarding manuscripts you have submitted, but we would be glad to help with any other questions.
