In partnership with the churches and individuals who purchase resources through Cokesbury, the retail division of The United Methodist Publishing House has donated $50,000 to the Imagine No Malaria campaign following a fundraising event April 7–10. The $50,000 is a portion of sales through 64 stores, online sales at Cokesbury.com, and Cokesbury’s 800-672-1789 telephone sales unit. In addition, food items contributed by customers at Cokesbury stores are being distributed to local food pantries across the U.S.Cokesbury is supporting “Change the World,” a global movement by United Methodists to serve their communities sparked by Mike Slaughter’s book, Change the World: Recovering the Message and Mission of Jesus (Abingdon Press, 2010). On April 24-25 congregations are encouraged to participate in a service project or fundraiser that will effect positive, long-lasting change. Hundreds of churches in 13 countries have pledged to take part.
On April 25, World Malaria Day, The United Methodist Church will formally launch a $75 million Imagine No Malaria campaign to end deaths caused by malaria by providing bed nets to malaria-affected regions of the world.
