Abingdon Press will be represented at the 2010 Large Church Initiative (LCI 2010) by three well-known authors and influencers. Bob Whitesel, Gil Rendle, and Lovett Weems will be among thirteen keynote speakers for this year’s conference.LCI 2010 is a national training event offered by The United Methodist Church Large Church Initiative Steering Committee in partnership with the General Board of Discipleship. The conference introduces attendees to leading thinkers, major speakers, and cutting-edge tools for congregations. This national training event is geared toward churches with more than 350 regular worshippers. It will be held on April 12-15, in San Antonio, Texas.
Bob Whitesel is an author, professor, and speaker on the organic emerging church, non-profit management, and church growth. He currently serves as president of the Great Commission Research Network as well as a board member for The Society of Church Consulting. He is also president of Creative Church Consulting (C3 International), a church growth consulting firm in Winona Lake, Indiana. He is the author of four books with Abingdon Press including Inside the Organic Church: Learning From 12 Emerging Congregations (2006). His forthcoming title, Organix, will be available in the spring of 2011.
Gil Rendle is senior consultant with The Institute for Clergy and Congregational Excellence of The Texas Methodist Foundation in Austin, Texas. He has served as senior consultant for the Alban Institute, senior pastor of two urban congregations in Pennsylvania, and as a denominational consultant for The United Methodist Church. Journey in the Wilderness will release October 2010 from Abingdon Press.
Lovett Weems Jr. is distinguished professor of church leadership and director of the Lewis Center for Church Leadership at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. A local church pastor and seminary president for many years, he is the author of Church Leadership: Vision, Team, Culture and Integrity, Leadership in the Wesleyan Spirit, and Take the Next Step: Leading Lasting Change in the Church, all published by Abingdon Press.
