ABINGDON PRESS AUTHOR RECEIVES LEADERSHIP AWARD

Longtime Abingdon Press author Bill Easum has recently been named the 2009 recipient of the Donald McGavran Award for Outstanding Leadership in Church Growth. The honor is awarded by the Great Commission Research Network (formerly the American Society for Church Growth), an affiliation of church leaders who share research, examine case studies, hear from cutting-edge leaders, and network with fellow church professionals who are committed to helping local churches expand the kingdom through disciple-making. Easum will be recognized at this year’s annual conference at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Nov. 10-12, 2009.

“We’re delighted to congratulate Bill Easum on this outstanding award,” said Mary Catherine Dean, Editor-in-Chief of Abingdon Press. “For many years, his contributions to the work of the church and to fostering leadership in church growth have made the faith community a richer, more diverse environment for seekers and veteran believers alike. We wish him success and even greater vision as he expands his disciple-making endeavors in the years to come.”

Bill Easum is president of 21st Century Strategies, Inc., a church consulting and nurturing firm. One of the most widely sought advisors on congregational health and vitality in North America, he has more than 30 years of congregational experience, with approximately 25 years' experience as pastor. He is the author of several books with Abingdon Press, including UnFreezing Moves, Put On Your Own Oxygen Mask First, Go Big with Small Groups (with John Atkinson), and A Second Resurrection.

Easum’s newest book, co-authored with Bill Tenny-Brittian, helps congregations make wise decisions about how to weather economic storms and emerge on the other side much stronger. Releasing in April 2010, Ministry in Hard Times argues that now is the time for churches to exercise wisdom, act strategically, and live out their mission as radically as possible.
